Did You Know: Screen Time

Book Appointment

What is screen time really doing to our kids’ eyes?

Our kids have likely had a lot more screen time over the last few months, and with school starting, many kids will continue to do a lot more.

Staring at a glare source, like a laptop, iPad, or phone can put a lot of strain on their eyes. It’s like continuously holding a 1 pound weight in each hand for the whole day, it doesn’t feel like much at first, but by the end of the day, it can make your arms pretty tired. That’s what their eyes go through constantly focusing on a screen all day. Encourage your kids to take a break every 30 minutes for 10 minutes. If possible limit their screen time. The recommendation for kids ages 5 to 9 is 1 hour, and 2 hours for kids ages 10 to 17. I know this isn’t always possible with the school. If your child complains of tired, sore, or stinging eyes, come talk to us.
